Deuteronomy 7:6,14:2 NIV 2011

For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of tbe earth to be his people, his treasured possession.

For you are a people holy to the Lord your God.

After Moses gave the Israelites the Ten Commandments, he gave clarification regarding living in a civil society. They were God’s chosen people. Leviticus 20:26, “You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.” They were to keep God’s laws. Leviticus 22:31, “Keep my commands and follow them. I am the Lord.” Holy people spent time praying and praising God. Psalm 30:4, “Sing praises to the Lord, you his faithful people, praise his holy name. God alone defines His people as holy.

When my life begins to get crazy and I wonder why I’m doing what I do, I look to God’s Word for His assurance of who I am. These passages have been very helpful. A dear friend shared a conversation she’d had with her teenage daughter about playing sports. It ended with her stating, “This sport doesn’t define me mom.” She then told her she was leaning on the Lord. All I could think of was Isaiah 11:6, “…and a little child will lead them.” God’s defines me daily as holy.

What defines you?

God declares His people are holy,

S
