1 Peter 2:13-15 NIV 2011
Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority; or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.
One commentator wrote, “Peter urges that Christians submit to all legitimate authorities” in 2:13-3:6. Paul wrote as well, Romans 13:1, “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.” Those in authority are God’s servants, Romans 13:4, “For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good.” Whether believers do wrong or right, God ultimately is in control. Peter continued in verse 17, “For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.” Submitting to the Lord and human authority, Jesus’ Light radiates from believers.
Leviticus 20:24b, “I am the Lord your God, who has set you apart from the nations.” God set His people apart when all were created. He continued to remind them as He does the same for us. We are to look different than those who do not know Jesus. Whether it’s engaging in conversation with someone at Costco or saying thank you, daily I’m called to let my Light shine. Citizens of the King, we’re rays of Son Light in the darkness.
How does reflecting Jesus help others?
Shining Son Light,
