Psalm 85:8-10 NIV 2011

I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—but let them not turn to folly. Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness looks down from heaven.

This psalm was part of a communal prayer offered by God’s people when they were suffering. They knew God was faithful and would give them peace. Leviticus 26:6, “I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid.” The Lord was their light. Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” Their righteousness would bring them peace. Isaiah 32:17, “The fruit of the righteousness will be peace…” Faith in God brings peace to the hearts of believers.

Like all of God’s people there are times when I rely on my self rather than trust God with the details of my life. When I finally stopped worrying about our young girls and trusted God with their lives, I was given His awesome peace. I decided I’d be bring up girls the way I was in the church and then trust God to work in their hearts. They eventually both made professions of faith which gave me peace. Though sometimes a stretch, trusting God daily does bring peace to my heart.

How much is peace worth?

Changed by God together,
