Luke 12:25-26, 30 NIV 2011
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
“And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.”
Jesus told His disciples not to worry. Luke 12:22, “Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…’” He assured them God was in control. Luke 22:32, “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” Matthew quoted Jesus’ words regarding worry. Matthew 6:27, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Jesus told the people gathered not to worry. Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow.” Jesus tells believers not to worry.
My first study in BSF was the book of Matthew. I learned much about my desire to be in control of most situations. That desire was rooted in fear. Fear of the unknown forced me to make sure I was in control of the difficult things surrounding me. It was a time when I was no longer able to control those things. By focusing on all the ways God is faithful, He daily shows me how to flee from fear, face the future while focusing on Him and not worrying.
