Isaiah 30:15, 21 NIV 2011
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.”
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
The Old Testament reveals repenting from sin is The Lord’s requirement for salvation. Isaiah quoted God’s words for His people; “repentance followed by rest” leads to salvation. He echoed Psalm 46:10, “He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’” But alas, God’s people chose others rather than God, wanting their own way and gods. Jeremiah told God’s people to remember and return, 6:16. “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths.” God’s people continually chose to align with others. The Sovereign Lord is the only reliable alliance.
Meeting Jesus Christ at a young age, my thoughts of the Sovereign Lord changed as I grew to love Him. His words in the Old Testament began to make sense when I understood the Old Testament pointed to our need for a Savior. The Holy Spirit guides my thoughts revealing God’s Truth. His Truth daily calls me as well as all His people to repent and rest in Him. Resting gives us strength and hearing Him gives us direction. God alone is our only reliable alliance.
How is God reliable?
