Psalm 84:1-2, 10a NIV 2011
How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.
The psalter offered a prayer longing to return to the House of the Lord. One commentator wrote, “presumably a Levite…when Sennacherib was ravaging Judah.” 2Kings 18:13, “In the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.” Not able to worship, he offered his petitions to the Lord. Psalm 84:10, “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.” The priest remained faithful. Psalm 73:26, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion.” God’s Spirit dwells in believer’s hearts.
The truth of God’s Word never changes. Ephesians 2:22, “And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” God made a way to dwell with us daily through His gift of the Holy Spirit. Sitting on a plane 40 minutes after pushback waiting to proceed, God was with me. Whatever lay ahead, the Holy Spirit would guide, guard and direct my path. I have access to God 24/7; He walks and waits with me. God’s Spirit dwells in me.
How do you enter His courts with praise?
