Isaiah 25:8b-9 NIV 2011
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken.
In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”
Isaiah, God’s prophet to the people of Judah and Jerusalem, predicted God’s judgment and discipline tempered with His comfort upon their return and restoration. God is sovereign. The Lord would deliver and bless His tearful people. Isaiah 30:19, “People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.” God removed their disgrace. Isaiah praised the Lord for all He’d done in the past. Trusting God led to salvation. Isaiah 43:3, “For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” The Lord saves those who trust Him.
The Israelites of Isaiah’s day don’t differ from us today. They were blind to what was happening to their nation. Many choose money and power over being a part of the church. Once a great nation with its motto “In God we trust” Christians are persecuted for their personally held religious beliefs. When someone does not go along with “group think” they are called de-humanizing names. Isaiah’s words are prescient for today. The Lord daily saves all who trust Him.
How do you trust the Lord each day?
