2 Corinthians 12:9b-10 NIV 2011
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Paul continual wrote of his weakness in both First and Second Corinthians. 1 Corinthians 2:3, “I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.” God used his human weakness as the backdrop to reveal His divine power. Though Paul’s weakness, which he referred to as “a thorn in his side” was never disclosed, He powered through for the cause of Christ. Paul used his weakness as an example of God’s power. Paul used Christ and the cross as another example. 2 Corinthians 134, “For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power.” The power of God strengthens weak and struggling believers.
“Shipwrecked, Rescued by Jesus” is this year’s theme for VBS. Today’s point was, “When you struggle…Jesus rescues!” God used Paul’s weakness and He uses my weaknesses to lend me strength. Understanding this is a process for a sinner like me that helps me smooth out the kinks in my journey. Because we are all imperfect, each of us will need to be rescued at least once in our life. Grounded in God’s Word daily, I’m grateful He strengthens me.
How has God strengthened you this week?
