Nehemiah 9:6 NIV 2011
“You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.”
Nehemiah recorded the confession of sins by the Israelites. While beautiful in its entirety, this portion stands as a testament to God’s grace evident from the beginning of creation. His power is not limited by time or space. This praise differs from Deuteronomy 6:4, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” The people are taking responsibility for their sins. They recognize He gave them life and there will be no other God to worship. Isaiah 40:26, “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these things?” Creation reveals God’s majesty to His people.
One truth that has stood out in God’s Word is this, looking down instead of looking up permits me to run into things. Seeing an incredible sunrise or sunset, lifting my eyes I experience the majestic hews of brilliant pinkorange and vibrant yellow washing the sky. Cerulean blue skies spotted with snowy white clouds are only clearly visible while lifting my eyes. The God who made the heavens is with us daily. God affords us the opportunity to recognize His creation. Creation reveals God’s majesty to all believers.
