Psalm 62:5-7 NIV 2011
Yes, my soul, find rest in God, my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation, he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge.
This Psalm of David was given as a reminder to God’s people. Psalm 62:1, “Truly my soul finds rest in God, my salvation comes from him.” He expressed his humble trust in God, which revealed his modest spirit. He shared authentic words; salvation comes from God. Verbalizing these words was a reminder to him as well. When the going gets tough, the tough go to God for He is the refuge no man will match. David’s soul found hope, rest, salvation, honor, a fortress, rock, mighty rock and refuge all in God. Perfect rest comes through resting fully in God the Father.
Many of us struggle to get enough rest. Sleep deprived, we wander through the motions of being a child of God. I find myself wandering at times through my spiritual walk when I fail to remember to anchor myself to the Rock that is my fortress. Reading through this Psalm reminds me He is my salvation and my life depends on Him. Loosing sight of that in this busy world where we live can become extremely tiring. I find my rest in Him because He alone provides me His perfect rest.
What helps us perfectly rest daily?
