Deuteronomy 18:18-19 NIV2011
“I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.”
Some commentators consider the book of Deuteronomy a series of Moses’ farewell messages. Moses quoted the Words of the Lord, God placed “in his mouth.” Jeremiah 1:9, “Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, ‘I have put my words in your mouth.’” God expected His people to heed all of His prophets. Luke quoted Moses. Acts 3:23, “Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.” Everyone makes a choice to believe or not. Prophets spoke God’s Truth about the One who would fulfill His Word: Jesus Christ.
While we do not have prophets today, there are many Godly men that have led the way. John Calvin was a French theologian during the Protestant Reformation. John Newton, an English slave trader, met Christ and became an Anglican pastor. AW Tozer, a man of God, spent copious time in prayer by dedicating forty plus years sharing Jesus Christ. All three made a momentous impact on my life and I thank God daily for their lives. Each spoke or wrote God’s Truth of Jesus Christ.
