Ephesians 6:18, Jude 1:20-21a NIV 2011
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with the kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep praying for all the Lord’s people.
But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love…
Paul urged all God’s people to “pray in the Spirit” whenever they prayed. In Romans 8:26 he wrote, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.” Reliance on the Holy Spirit when praying aids all believers during suffering or any other stressful time of life. He also added to remember other believers in prayer. Jude contrasts his “dear friends” with the ungodly false teachers; the impetus of his letter. They were to cling to Christ’s teachings while “praying in the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit is one divine element of believer’s prayer.
Awake an hour early, the Holy Spirit led me in sweet fellowship with the Father. Driving east toward the airport, the sky was awash in an early morning burst of sunrise over “Sin City.” Keenly aware of God’s majesty, thanks was all I could utter as we drove along. Surrendered to the power of the Holy Spirit, my day is centered on the Creator. He alone has absolute sway over my daily life. The Holy Spirit’s divine power patiently drives my daily prayers.
