1 Kings 19:11a, 12b, 15a NIV 2011 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
The Lord said to him, “Go back the way you came.”
Elijah, God’s prophet, got rid of Baal’s false prophets. 1 Kings 18:40, “Then Elijah commanded them, ‘Seize the prophets of Baal. Don’t let anyone get away.’” Jezebel was angry and sent a warning to Elijah. 1 Kings 19:3, “Elijah was afraid and ran for his life.” God told Elijah where to go and what to do. Wlijah persevered through powerful winds, earthquake, and fire while waiting for the Lord. It was a seminal moment in his life. He heard the still small voice of God question him while offering him instructions to follow. God’s voice guides His faithful to return.
I was reading a devotional today that stated I needed to take great care with anything I listened leading me to Proverbs 4:24, “Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.” Though Elijah was a prophet called by God to lead Israel, he needed to remember to listen to the Lord. And that is exactly what I need to do on a daily basis. When I leave Him out of the equation, the numbers are meaningless. My life has depth listening to His voice.
Where does God’s voice lead us each day?
