Psalm 3:5-6, 8 NIV 2011
I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.
From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.
David, the author of this Psalm, was a man after God’s own heart. Acts 13:22b, “God testified concerning, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart.’” While being pursued by his son Absalom, David knew the Lord was with him even when he slept. Psalm 4:8, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” During this time David’s enemies were nipping at his heals, he knew the Lord would deliver and bless him. Psalm 29:11, “The Lord blesses his people with peace.” The Lord remains with those who rest in Him.
The sweetest fellowship I have with the Lord is at night just before I go to sleep. All my sins are laid before Him. Then I praise Him for each small way I’ve seen His mighty hand during the day. Whether it was a fleeting thought that helped me remember something or just the beauty right before my eyes, He’s beside me daily. When I have fellowship with the Father, my life is focused on Him and his direction for me. Resting in the Lord, He remains with me.
How will you rest in the Lord today?
Remaining in Him together,
