Psalm 50:14-15, 23 NIV 2011
“Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
“Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation.”
Most commentators agree this Psalm was composed as a temple liturgy reaffirmation God’s covenant with His people. It was possibly connected to the Festival of Tabernacles. Leviticus 23:34, “Say to the Israelites; ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month the Lord’s Festival of Tabernacles begins, and it lasts for seven days.’” The Psalter reminded the people to think of God and His faithfulness throughout their history. Israel was to depend on God consistently as they offered the “thank” offerings. Psalm 81:7a, “In your distress you called and I rescued you.” God’s wants faithful, thankful and trusting people to have an active relationship with Him.
Reading God’s Word daily, I need to remember to listen to those words. Then a plan needs to be made that ends in an action on my part. God had a plan and a purpose for His people throughout the Bible. Sitting among a group of women today, the plan for this years BSF class enfolded. It showed me God has a plan for me, even at my age. Being thankful, faithful and trusting, I want my relationship to grow by serving Him.
What does God want from you?
Thankful, faithful and trusting,
