Romans 4:23-25 NIV 2011

The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

Paul’s statement “it was credited to him” ended the chapter of Abraham being justified by faith. Justification is available by faith in Christ. Believing in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ by faith each person is immediately justified. Paul used Isaiah’s words that completed his discourse of Abraham. Isaiah 53:12b&c, “because he poured out his life unto death…For he bore the sins of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” Believing Jesus died for the sins of all, every believer is justified by faith in His finished work.

I recall one sweet communion with my church family in New Albany. It was more than four years ago and I was shadowing as a new Team Lead. We followed the fifth-grader’s as they were the last ones to participate. I’d made the decision to follow Christ at that age. I remember praying for each one to continue in their walk of faith even when the going gets tough. Each was justified, as was I, because of our belief in Christ’s finished work on the cross at Calvary.

How will we pray for those who don’t know Jesus?
