Ezekiel 18:30b-32 NIV 2011
Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, people of Israel? For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!
The priest Ezekiel spoke to the captive Jews restating, “Repent!” Ezekiel 14:6, “Therefore say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices!’” David asked for a pure heart in Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” The same God that rescued the Israelites from Egypt is the same God that would rescue His repentant captives. Holy God asks His people to turn from sin, repent and live.
Struggling with something in my life, I’ve asked God to renew me. That requires me to make changes in the way I do things rather than excuses. Accepting I’m a sinner is the first step in moving beyond my inadequacies. Being repentant is the first place I begin changing my heart attitude. Only God can place in me a desire to transform the way I do things. With a new heart and spirit I desire to turn from sin, repent and live.
When was the last time we asked for God to change our heart?
