Matthew 25:35-36 NIV 2011
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
Jesus knew His time was short after entering Jerusalem. Alone with His disciples He spoke in parables which contained nuggets for daily living. He called them to serve, not for gain but to shine the Light of Christ. James 1:27, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this; to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” Each disciple needed to listen to Jesus’ Words and then observe His deeds. Jesus was their model. By serving they were shining the Light of Jesus to others. Christ calls Christians to seek the Savior and serve.
God’s Word never changes. What the Lord wanted for the His people in the Old and New Testament is what He wants today. I need to get busy and be about the Lord’s work. I must not let little things get in my way when I’m prepared to pray. The only way I will hear His call is if I’m consistently speaking to Him daily in prayer. By asking Him where He wants me to serve I will recognize His voice.
Where is Jesus calling you to serve?
