Psalm 91:5-6 NIV 2011
You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness nor the plague that destroys at midday.
The Psalter continued with testimony of security that is found in God alone. David knew he’d experienced terror when he feared for his life. But yet he was confident the Lord was always with him. Psalm 64:1, “Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint; protect my life from the threat of the enemy.” Whether fear from those that might pose a physical threat or a threat from a disease of epic proportions, he knew God would protect him. Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” The Good Shepherd covers His sheep.
Before our youngest grandchild was born, I was strolling through a little gift shop north of Santa Barbara. My dear friend and I were in search of a baby gift. I found the cutest book, Simpson’s Sheep Won’t Go to Sleep. In a little barrel close by were small hand crafted sheep the perfect addition. I purchased all and the book’s been read many times. The sheep needed something to cover them to help them sleep. Like those sheep, I need the Lord to cover and shepherd me daily.
What ways does Jesus cover His sheep?
