Acts 3:17-19 NIV 2011
“Now, fellow Israelites, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer. Repent, then, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”
Peter addresses the crowd gathered at the temple in Jerusalem. They had not recognized Jesus as the Messiah. Luke 23:34, “Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’” Their Generous God would show mercy to them when they repented and turned to Him. Isaiah in 53:7-8 prophesied the suffering Messiah would come to save them all. Repentance includes turning from sin while faith is turning to God. Those who choose to repent and turn back to God will be refreshed.
After trying to get pregnant for two years in 1978 I cried out to God. Our daughter was turning five in November still without a sibling. I had turned my back on God in 1966 and yet He was my only answer. Repenting for my sinful disregard of His sovereignty in my life, I turned to Him. Less than two months later I was pregnant. She was dedicated to the Lord as we stood in the church pregnant with our third child due three months later. Forgiven, He refreshed me with two additional beautiful daughters.
What ways does God refresh us daily?
