1 Thessalonians 5:15-18 NIV 2011
Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Paul’s final instructions were explained for everyone’s personal edification. Do not seek retribution but rather use the model of Christ by repaying evil with good. Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.” Rejoice always, Philippians 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Pray continually, Luke 18:1, “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should pray and not give up.” Thank God, Ephesians 5:20, “always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jesus is God’s example for Christians to emulate.
What God continually reveals to me is Jesus is my example. He is what keeps me anchored in this upside down world. Cruising along, some days are met without a hitch. But then from out of the blue a curve ball is hit toward me and I fumble around like a third baseman without a mitt. Just like the Thessalonians, I need to keep my eyes and mind focused on Jesus. He is God’s example for me to emulate daily.
What’s one characteristic of Christ to emulate?
