Psalm 1:1, Matthew 5:3 NIV 2011

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers…

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

The Psalter offers a contrast between walking in wickedness and not. Psalm 1:6, “For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.” God’s people need to choose which path they will take. One Matthew commentator wrote, “‘Blessed’ here refers to the ultimate well-being and distinctive spiritual joy of those who share in the salvation of the kingdom of God.” Revelation 1:3, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take it to heart…” Blessings abound for those who walk with the Lord.

Awaking early this morning, I was thankful for all the medical advances that have been made in the past thirty years. My dad had cataract surgery in the late 80’s. He then wore contacts after it. A stroke a few years later made contacts difficult so he wore glasses with thick lenses until he passed away. My new multifocal lenses were implanted in both eyes and has been such a blessing knowing the Lord guides my every step. Walking daily with the Lord, His blessings abound.

Where have we seen His blessings today?

Faith walking together,
