Ezekiel 34:23-24 NIV 2011
I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd. I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the Lord have spoken.
Ezekiel was God’s prophet to the Jews in Babylonian captivity from 593-571 BC. He continually assured God’s people they would return to Jerusalem through God’s hand. They were the ones that would rebuild the temple. A ruler like David would come. Jeremiah 23:5, “‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will raise up David a righteous branch.’” Jesus was the fulfillment of each prophet’s prophetic words. Matthew 1:1, “This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham.” Jesus was the Prince of Peace Isaiah revealed in Isaiah 9:6. Following the Shepherd brings peace to God’s people.
Just like the Jews in Babylonian captivity, there are many that are oppressed today. God calls us to stand firm and not ignore what is going on around us. The Lord used prophets like Ezekiel and Jeremiah to speak to His people. We have God’s Word to guide us daily while walking with Him. Terrorism along with Christian persecution continues to be present in the world around us. As followers of Jesus He calls us to help the oppressed. Jesus’ followers experience God’s peace.
Where’s God calling us to stand firm with Him?
His peaceful followers,
