John 1:15b-17 NIV 2011
“This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’” Out of his fullness we have received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
The apostle John quotes John the Baptist’s declaration because “he came as a witness to testify concerning the light” John 1:7. John the Baptist was willing to surrender his being the eldest to Jesus. Jesus existed before John. John prepared the foundation for Christ’s arrival. Paul used similar words regarding Christ’s fullness, Colossians 2:9, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.” God gave Moses the Law. Jesus, God with skin on, gave believers God’s great grace. Romans 3:24, “and all are justified freely by his grace…” The only way to know the Father is by knowing the Son.
My sixth BSF Teaching Leader referred to Jesus as “God with skin on.” It was the first time I’d heard that expression. She was from the south and I assumed it was a southern thing. Liking those words they drew me nearer to Him studying God’s Word. By the Sea of Galilee and the Mount of Olives, I walked where Jesus walked. There was a kinship with Jesus in Israel. Intimately knowing Jesus, I know the Father.
How do we share our knowledge of Jesus daily?
Thankful to know Jesus,
