1 Samuel 2:7-8 NIV 2011
“The Lord sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.
“For the foundations of the earth are the Lords; on them he has set the world.”
These are two verses from Hannah’s prayer of praise and thanksgiving to God. It is compared to Mary’s song in Luke 1:46-55 as the Magnificat of the New Testament and Hannah’s prayer of the Old Testament. She waited year after year for a child. Hannah knew God was the source of all things good in her life including the birth of her son. Samuel arrived after long years of waiting patiently. The foundation of her faith was the Lord. God gives hope to the poor because He alone is the Deliverer.
Women suffered with infertility, being barren, throughout the Bible. Sarah became pregnant with Isaac when her husband “was a hundred years old.” Many young women today wait expectantly for a child. Those that love the Lord, seek Him knowing He will hear their prayer. Waiting more than four years after our first daughter was born, I too cried out to the Lord. God heard my daily prayer and answered with the birth of our second daughter. He alone renewed my hope as the One True Deliverer.
Where do we see God as our Deliverer?
