Hebrews 11:39-40 NIV 2011
These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
Hebrews was written to present Christ as both supreme and sufficient to disclose and mediate God’s grace. Chapter eleven offers many examples of men of faith and actions found in the Old Testament. Hebrews 11:2, “This is what the ancients were commended for:” Each was prefaced with, “By faith…” and ended with the reason they were included in the letter. Hebrews11:8-9v, “By faith Abraham, when called…made his home in the promised land…” None knew the promised Messiah but each believed by faith. Therefore God made their faith perfect. Christ fulfilled God’s plan. All who believe in Jesus Christ are redeemed.
Reflecting on all the OT patriarchs and their faith continues to be humbling for me. In light of all the amazing ways our Great God continues to work in my life, I’m still a sinner needing Jesus daily. That’s more than likely the reason I seek His guidance. Christ’s death on the cross was for my sins. He was God’s perfect lamb, slain for the sins of all. He came as a baby to fulfill God’s promise to Abraham centuries ago. I chose to follow Jesus knowing He paid the price for my redemption.
