1 Samuel 12:21-22 NIV 2011
Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless. For the sake of his great name the Lord will not reject his people, because the Lord was pleased to make you his own.
After giving the people the earthly king they wanted, Samuel offered his godly wisdom. Don’t turn to worship useless idols. Jonah 2:8, “Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.” Idols led them away from God just as Moses gave warning to Israelites. Deuteronomy 11:16, “Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them.” God chose Israel as His. 1 Peter 2:9a, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.” Turning to the Lord saves sinners.
On a mission this afternoon, directions were verbally coming from the phone. “Turn right in .5 miles.” We then went around and around in a parking lot. After exiting the parking lot we heard the voice, “Make a U-turn.” I could only laugh. I asked what was the address so we had an idea as to where we may have made a mistake. We finally found the place using the address. God’s no different when He asks us to turn from sin. Turning to Him, He’s the address I seek.
Why should we daily turn to Him?
Seeking Him together,
