Mark 4:38-39 NIV 2011
Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
After teaching and preaching to the crowds, Jesus suggested they take leave of the area. Matthew 8:18, “When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.” A storm ensued. Matthew 8:24, “Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.” Jesus was still and peacefully slept as the disciples feared their fate. After calming the seas, He questioned them. Mark 4:40, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Jesus calms the storms of life.
Who calms the storms in my life? Psalm 65:5 & 7, ” You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds, God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas. Who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations.” Psalm 107:29, “He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.” Great Scripture to remind me daily that during the storms of life Jesus alone will calm them.
What storms are you facing today?
Peacefully still with Jesus,
