Psalm 84:10b-11 NIV 2011
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicket. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.
This psalm is of the Sons of Korah, a Levitical family of Kohath, son of Levi, a priest. One commentator wrote, “A prayer of longing for the house of the Lord.” The author desired to worship God in the temple. 2 Kings 18:13, “In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.” David knew the Lord was His strength and portion. Psalm 27:3a, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.” The Lord lights the path of those walking with HIm.
Never in a million years would I have imagined houses of worship shuttered to it’s congregants. When I read this Psalm early this morning, I understood the way he felt. Spending time in fellowship with fellow members has always drawn me closer to the Lord. Isolation was never God’s intention. God created man to have a relationship with Him. Joining with others, we then can fellowship together. I’d rather lift my voice in song with others and praise God than watch anything alone. He lights our path as we daily walk with Him.
How do we light the way for others?
