Acts 10:34-35 NIV 2011
Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.”
Peter layed out his case for God’s people to be holy. 1 Peter 1:16, “for it is written, ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” He quoted the Law of the Old Testament in Leviticus 19:b. Speaking in the home of Cornelius he was making it crystal clear God doesn’t show favoritism. Paul made the same statement in Romans 2:11. All who come to faith in Jesus Christ do so at the foot of the cross. 1 Peter 1:17, “Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.” God has no favorites.
I can remember hearing our girls in bed at night say, “No I’m mom and dad’s favorite.” I remember as a child wanting to not make waves and to please my parents. I was a bit defiant and during those times I experienced their rebuke. When I understood God’s amazing grace, that came with a desire to please him not to win favor but to reveal I was one of His family. He is Lord of my life and I need to daily live in reverent fear. Our Great God has no favorites.
How accepting are we of those around us?
