Romans 10:9-10 NIV 2011
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
“Jesus is Lord,” is referred to as the Christian confession of faith in the early church. Jesus told His followers God would know them. Matthew 10:32, “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.” Jesus told them the Truth. He was God’s one and only Son. The people believed His Words changing hearts. Their verbal confession of faith in Him saved them. Through salvation they received eternal life. John 3:15, “That everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” Salvation comes through inward belief and outward confession.
It is by God’s amazing grace that I was saved. I needed to believe with my heart and then make a public profession of my faith by walking forward one Sunday at the Baptist church we attended. I love Paul’s words in Ephesians 6:17, “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” My faith in Christ covers my head. Studying God’s Word grounds my faith by revealing all God has provided in His Word. My heart believed and I publically chose Jesus.
