Exodus 40:37-38 NIV 2011
“But if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day; and the fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during their travels.”
These were the final instructions given to Moses and the Israelites after finishing the tabernacle. God would be with His people as he dwelt among them in the tabernacle. He would guide them to the Promised Land. When the cloud moved they were to move. Luke 21:27, “At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” John wrote about the clouds in Revelation. Revelation 1:7, “Look, he is coming with the clouds.” God used clouds to reveal He remains with His people consistently.
Warm summer days of my youth in Seattle I’d watch clouds as the mysterious shapes drifting above. When I studied the Life of Moses in BSF, I smiled and reflected when reading this Scripture of God leading the Israelites with His cloud. When my husband makes comments about appointments from my iPhone showing on his, I just say it was the fault of the iCloud. That moment continues to make me laugh as I recall, the Rolling Stones song, “Get off my cloud.” I’m glad God’s cloud/Holy Spirit guides me daily.
What clouds in our lives need to be heeded?
Guided by the Spirit,
