Psalm 92:12-15 NIV 2011
The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”
The Psalter began this Psalm celebrating the Lord. Those who choose paths of evil will perish. Solomon’s words described the righteous in Psalm 72:7, “In his days may the righteous flourish and prosperity abound until the moon is no more.” Those planted securely in the Lord stand firm even into their later years. Deuteronomy 32:4, “He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” Those planted in the house of the Lord will flourish.
Reading through Psalm 92 this morning caused me to smile and keep smiling throughout the day. Remembering all those who have gone before me that were themselves planted in the house of the Lord I’m humbled to be counted in that group. The Patriarchs that persevered, the early church that persisted and we today press on daily for the cause of Christ. Being in a community/church, is how we know what God wants for us. We flourish together planted in the Lord.
What fruit are we bearing for the Lord?
