Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV 2011
Now may the God of peace who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Hebrew’s author ended his letter to Jewish Christians with a benediction similar to those Paul used in his letters “the God of peace.” The “eternal covenant” is fulfilled in Jesus Christ the Passover Lamb. Jeremiah 32:40, “I will make an everlasting covenant with them.” The writer reiterated precisely what the Shepherd will do; equip them with all that they need: faith, obedience, perseverance and faithfulness, each essential for those serving the Lord. Equipped by Jesus true faith is revealed in the way believers live their lives.
Stepping out in faith to serve the Lord I can see how He equips me when that step takes me right where He leads me. I’m now a part of a small church less that two miles away. God’s called me to serve there. Patiently waiting on Him, he showed me the place. I’ve become part of the prayer team, praying each Wednesday night at prayer meeting. He’s called me to greet on Sundays. I’ve even helped lead worship once. The Lord equips me daily when I live my life for Him.
