1 Timothy 2:5, Titus 3:4-5a, Philemon 1:7 NIV 2011
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us.
Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.
Paul’s two letters to Timothy were written to encourage him regarding the care of the church at Ephesus. Titus’ letter contained concerned care for the church on Crete. Philemon’s letter differed and urged him to exhibit grace to Onesimus, his runaway slave. Philemon was a dear friend and fellow worker. Paul challenged each recipient to use Christ as the model. Paul wrote in 2:6 Christ offered himself “as a ransom for all.” Jesus came to save sinners. Titus 2:11, “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.” Jesus is our mediator and faithful pastor.
Reading through the three Pastoral Letters and Philemon gives me a sense of Paul’s desire for those he commissioned. They needed to remain steadfastly anchored to sound doctrine. Therefore I must daily read and study His Word, which reinforces my resolve as a follower of Jesus. Christ went to the cross for my sins and sits at the right hand of God the Father. As believers, we can rest in the truth; Jesus is our mediator and faithful pastor.
Where is Jesus calling you to remain steadfast?
Steadfastly anchored in Jesus,
