Matthew 11:28-30 NIV 2011
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Jesus spoke to the crowds of Galilee after John the Baptist’s disciples sought Jesus’ wisdom. Matthew 11:27, “All things have been committed to me by my Father.” Jesus gave them an invitation for all “who are weary” to come. The Pharisees oppressed the people with weighty legalistic interpretations of God’s law. Jesus came to relieve the weight of the law by offering the final blood sacrifice which would give them all rest. Jesus said to come and He gave rest. He said to take His yoke and learn. Rest for believers comes from gentle, humble Jesus’ lightened burden and easy yoke.
It still boggles my mind for those who are not believers to balk at surrendering their lives to Him. Many conversation end with the question, “I just don’t get why you are the way you are?” Smiling, I let them know I walk with Jesus. Sitting here typing with a huge smile on my face, I know humble, gentle Jesus personally. He daily restores my soul. When meeting with Him I find rest for my burdens because He always lightens my load.
