Jeremiah 3:13, 22 NIV 2011
“Only acknowledge your guilt—you have rebelled against the Lord your God…”
“Return, faithless people: I will cure you of backsliding.”
“Yes, we will come to you, for you are the Lord our God.”
Jeremiah was called by God to preach to the nation of Judah. God’s people needed to turn repent and return to Him. 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Jeremiah was the Lord’s surgeon sent to preform heart surgery. 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sins and heal their land.” God heals the heart of repentant sinners.
Driving this morning I was a bit rebellious. I passed someone driving me crazy, got ahead of him and quickly resumed the correct speed limit. Minutes later an unmarked black car pulled behind me, following me to my exit. I saw as he passed it was a state trooper. Forty minutes later on a side street I’d just traveled I remembered the speed limit quickly reduced my speed to 25. Two blocks later I passed a police car at the corner. Like Judah I was being rebellious. Daily God heals my rebellious heart.
What backsliding rebellious spirit lingers within us?
Acknowledging guilt together,
