Psalm 136:1, 2 Philippians 4:6 NIV 2011
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
One commentator wrote, “This liturgy concludes the Great Hallel, Ps 120-137.” “Thanks” was offered to the Lord of Creation who was Redeemer of Israel. A Levitical song leader led God’s people in response as they said, “His love endures forever.” Giving thanks to God is good. Psalm 105:1, “Give praise to the Lord…” Paul reiterates what Jesus said to the people. Matthew 6:25a, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body…” Being self-absorbed was what brought about anxiety. Worry is counterproductive and prayer is the remedy. Thanksgiving is a vital element of prayer.
Listening to the thunder and seeing the lightning flashes dance around the room early this morning, I could only smile and thank God for the relief from the heat. Yesterday’s heat drove us back to the AirBnB to relax and stay cool. Looking out at the lush landscape and the leaves moving in the breeze, I’m thankful for our little respite here. We are off to watch Venus Williams at the Sydney Invitational with our friends this afternoon. God is worthy of thanks daily.
Why is God worthy of thanks?
