Matthew 5:11-12 NIV 2011

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Matthew quoted Jesus’ Words as he gave what some call The Sermon on the Mount. This is part of the portion called the beatitudes. Verses 3-10 are the eight beatitudes, and this is additional information. He addressed those who might experience persecution when they share the Truth of Jesus Christ. Jesus encouraged the faithful to persevere during suffering. Jesus called them “blessed” and encouraged them to “rejoice and be glad.” Persecution was nothing new and it continues today. Greater is He that is in His faithful than those who are in the world.

The book of Matthew was the first book of the Bible I studied in depth. Matthew speaks my language because he was a tax collector. Numbers make sense to me because they are constant. While addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are the basis of math, the same foundation of God and His Truth is revealed in His Word. There will be persecution, but He has called us all to share the Truth of His Word. If He could walk to the cross for a sinner like me, what is my excuse for not sharing His amazing grace?

How will we share the truth of His Word daily?

Faithfully sharing together,
