Romans 1:1-3 NIV 2011
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who is to his earthly life was descendant of David.
Paul was called to be a servant and willingly chose to serve his Master, Jesus. 1 Corinthians 1:1, “Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes.” He was set apart. Acts 9:15, “But the Lord said to Ananias, ‘Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles…’” Galatians 3:8, “Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham.” Jesus was a descendent of David, Matthew 1:1. Paul was called to share the Good News as Jesus’ apostle that Christ came to save sinners.
Unlike Paul, I’ve heard and answered each of time God’s called since the mid 1980’s. Though I missed one, it was soon after our sweet Mandi went home to be with the Lord. While that does not excuse my untimely choice, I’ve been ready each time since when He’s called. Though it’s not always easy, I “consider it pure joy” like James that I’ve been called to serve. Jesus calls us all to share the Good News; Jesus Christ came to save sinners.
