Philippians 1:6, 7b NIV 2011
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
…whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me.
Paul wrote to encourage the Philippians. Living in a prosperous area of the Roman Empire, remaining steadfast in their resolve for the cause of Christ was their priority. They were saved sinners through Jesus Christ. Their faith would be tested through trials. That faith grew as they faithfully walked with the Lord. Romans 8:29a, “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.” God remained with them. 1 Corinthians 1:8a, “He will also keep you firm to the end.” God the Father who began a good work will complete it.
Constructing on our home began in 1983. It would have been nice to just snap our fingers and have it finished immediately. But we needed to use our blood, sweat and tears along the journey. We were given the opportunity to persevere and see it to completion. Satisfaction that came from our work was worth it. I believe because I belong to the Lord, I’m a work in progress. Much like our home, I know that God continues to refine my design. He who began a good work in me will complete it.
How does God work in believer’s lives?
