You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
Paul knew Timothy was facing tough times. Nero was the Roman Emperor. Paul was facing death. His letter was penned to encourage Timothy to persevere and never surrender. He needed to continue to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ. Ephesians 6:10, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” He was to fight the battle well and willingly suffer for the cause of Christ. 2 Timothy1:8b, “Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.” God calls believers to persevere.
After almost four weeks with no training or facilitating my BSF group, that’s way too much time away from my peeps. I’m thankful for the time spent writing and remaining in God’s Word daily. Half way through the study, with the Lord’s help, I’ve persevered through every obstacle the enemy has placed in my path. Have there been times when I just wanted to say, “I’m done”? Honestly there were a couple but I do know God called me to lead the sixteen women in my group. I’ve been called to persevere.
Why does God ask believers to persevere?
