Psalm 85:10-13 NIV2011
Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.
This Psalm is “of the Sons of Korah” which were the Levitical choir, descendants of Korah whom David appointed to serve in the temple. Korah was a son of Levi. This is one of four psalms in Book III attributed to the Sons of Korah. David knew the favor of God’s people. Psalm 23:6, “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life.” This Psalter showed God’s favor toward His people that received the same hope. Righteousness leads the way, marking the course for God’s people. God’s righteousness reveals His perfect faithfulness in all His promises. God is righteous.
Looking at the righteousness of God has always humbled me. To think that He desires a relationship with a sinner like me amazes me on a daily basis. Why would He desire this? Scouring through Scripture affirms His gracious answer. He banished Adam and Eve from Eden yet He walked with the children of Israel out of Egypt and walked with the Jews returning from Babylon to Jerusalem. He does not give up on any of His own. God’s righteousness shines through His perfect faithfulness given to believers.
