Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul reminded the church at Ephesus to “be filled” not with wine but rather the Spirit. Being filled with the Spirit is not a “once upon a time” event. It requires desiring the Spirit to enable God’s faithful to shine their light. He wanted believers to submit to God’s control. God’s Word is the manual for Christian living. Ephesians 5:8, “For you were once darkness; but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of the light.” The Spirit fills believers with abundant praise and worship. A believer’s life can only be lived out through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Sitting during my online leaders meeting this morning, I was struck with the Holy Spirit’s presence as we discussed Jesus’ Second Coming found in 1 Thessalonians. Molly asked us if we were living as if Christ was returning today. I did a self-assessment. My answer was that’s my goal. When the Holy Spirit indwells believers, we let His Light shine daily. Nothing can hinder it as long we continue to seek the indwelling Holy Spirit. Choosing to live my life through the power of the Holy Spirit.
