Philippians 3:20-21 NIV 2011
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
Paul presented the believers of Philippi his personal example of suffering. Philippians 1:13b, “that I am in chains for Christ.” He then went on to remind them they were citizen of heaven, not of this world. Ephesians 2:10, “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens of God’s people and also members of his household.” Paul’s letter to Timothy stated clearly there would be persecution and with that suffering. 2Timothy 3:12, “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” Victory over suffering comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
Just because I’m a follower of Jesus Christ doesn’t protect me from the world that surrounds us. Some of may suffer in silence not knowing what is causing the pain. Others suffer and shoulder through whatever comes their way. When I’m suffering, I take time to look at why it’s happening. 1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.” I’m loved by an amazing God daily. I have victory over suffering because of my faith in Jesus Christ.
What truths about suffering are found in God’s Word?
Victorious through faith together,
