Proverbs 2:6, 15:14, 18:15 NIV 2011
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.
The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.
Writing to the people of Israel, the author of Proverbs explained the importance of wise living and fear of the Lord. This was the complete opposite of worldviews of the day. All Israel needed came from God. Job 12:13, “To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his.” Psalm 119:34, “Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart.” A heart set on following the Lord was a heart clean and open to His Truth. 18:10, “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Hearts focused on God’s Truth acquire knowledge.
In my early twenties after graduating from college, I was amazed at how much I didn’t know. It was amazing to see my parents really knew more than I ever understood and there was much to learn. It wasn’t until beginning to study God’s Word in-depth that His wisdom was disclosed. That became the foundation for my life and my thought process. Re-reading the God’s Word, new insight is gleaned from each page. God’s Truth is stored daily in my heart.
