Proverbs 3:11-12, Revelation 3:19 NIV 2011
My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.”
The God of creation and wisdom is seen throughout the book of Proverbs. The author warns the reader living righteous lives does not lead to prosperity. Proverbs 3:1, “My son, do not forget my teaching; but keep my commands in your heart.” Solomon prayed for wisdom, 1 Kings 3:9, “So give your servant a discerning heart to govern…” God disciplined the Israelites during their forty year wandering in the wilderness. Paul wrote to the Corinthians 11:32, “Never the less, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined…” John shared the Lord’s final instructions for the church at Laodicea. The Lord consistently disciplines those He loves.
Much like the Israelites wandering in the desert for forty years, God disciplined me for those years I was rebellious. Repenting and returning to God, He was with me and He loved me through those defiant days. Getting off His throne was difficult and at times I wanted to sit on it once again. I’ve learned over the years I prefer Him seated there ready to seek His face. Disciplined time spent daily with Him I experience His amazing love.
How is God’s discipline growing our faith?
Loved by God,
