Deuteronomy 28:6, Psalm 121:7-8 NIV 2011
You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.
Moses understood the Lord was Israel’s only place for peace and refuge. He offered the Israelites God’s blessings in preparation prior to taking possession of the Promised Land. Deuteronomy 28:8, “The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.” David as well as the other psalters knew their help came from the Lord God alone. Psalm 9:9, “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” They needed to merely surrender and then turn to the Lord God for refuge and peace at all times. Lives surrendered to the Lord bring peace.
I remember singing a song as a child; “I’ve got the peace that passes understanding, down in my heart…” When older I sang, “I’ve got peace like a river in my soul.” Through music and God’s Word, I discovered God’s peace is available to all who follow Jesus Christ. My problems come when I loose sight of who I am in Christ. Surrender doesn’t come easily when the world around you says don’t back down. Thankfully I am confident living my life surrendered to the Lord brings me peace.
Where have you found peace today?
