Matthew 1:1,18 NIV 2011
This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David the son of Abraham:
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ was the promised Messiah born to the Virgin Mary. Because Matthew included women not of Jewish decent in His genealogy, he showed Jesus came to save all believers. Matthew’s genealogy of Joseph shows Jesus lineage through David from Abraham. This was the prophecy given to David in 2 Samuel 7:11b. He was conceived through the power of the Holy Spirit, not physically through Joseph. Their marriage was not consummated before Jesus’ birth. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin as God’s perfect sacrifice, Immanuel, God with us.
Sitting through worship service this time of year, I am struck with the reason for the season. He came as a babe, born in a manger. But His purpose was oh so much greater than that. He came to save sinners like every one of us. If I were the only sinner, He still would have come. He left heaven to take on human form to give His life as the perfect sacrifice, once and for all. We live forgiven today because of His sacrificial gift given for all.
How do we experience His forgiveness daily?
Living lives forgiven by Immanuel, God with us,
