Deuteronomy 31:23, 1 Corinthians 16:13 NIV 2011

The Lord gave this command to Joshua son of Nun: “Be strong, and courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you.”

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.

Moses gave encouraging words to all Israel with words from the Lord. Deuteronomy 31:3a, 6a “The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. Be strong and courageous.” He encouraged Joshua twice with words from the Lord. Deuteronomy 31:7, “Be strong, and courageous…” Paul made personal requests before his trip to Macedonia. His consistent message to faithful at every mission stop was to be strong. Ephesians 6:10, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” The Lord commands His faithful to be strong and courageous.

When do we need courage? Both of today’s Scripture show we need courage when we face dangers or difficulties. We also need courage when we face the future. Paul wrote to the Romans regarding their future. Romans 8:37, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” He knew they would suffer persecution for their faith. Since March, we as believers have suffered persecution for our faith. I’ve seen resolve and unwavering faith of God’s people gathering to worship Sundays who are strong and courageous.

How will we be strong and couragesous daily?

Faithfully facing our future,

S
